Getting started. Current specifications.

A guide to the controls and capabilities of Preview 0.9.0.

Getting started

  1. Open a video

Drop a video into the window or press ⌘O. Add multiple files or a folder to create a playlist.

  2. Choose a processing mode

Start with AUTO, which switches between Fast and Quality as workload changes. Compatible models offer Optimal, 2×, and native 4× output.

  3. Compare with the original

Choose Compare for Original on the left and Enhanced on the right. Drag the divider to inspect the same part of the frame.

  4. Adjust the finishing FX

Adjust model noise suppression, sharpening, debanding, grain, brightness, and gamma. Choose whether FX runs before or after upscaling, then inspect the finish in Original, Enhanced, or Compare.

  5. Use playback rate and seek

Choose 0.75×, 1×, 1.2×, 1.5×, or 2× playback with pitch preserved. Hover the seek bar to preview the destination frame and time.

A supported extension does not guarantee playback of every codec combination.

Preview limitations

  • SDR is the current focus; accurate HDR color management and tone mapping are not implemented.
  • DRM-protected video is not supported.
  • Enhancement works per frame and may introduce flicker depending on the material.
  • When enhancement falls more than 150ms behind playback, MetalVideo shows the source so audio and playback can continue. Fast mode or 2× output can reduce load.

Common questions

How long can I use the Preview?

This evaluation Preview is free to use through December 31, 2026, in your device’s local time zone. From January 1, 2027, playback, enhancement, and other app features in this build will stop working. Future Preview or product versions and pricing have not been decided.

Will expiration delete my videos or models?

After expiration, you can still view the expiration notice, open the official website, and quit. Expiration does not automatically delete videos, external or imported models, saved settings, or history. Migration of saved data to a future version is not guaranteed.

Will it become paid in 2027?

Future Preview or product versions and pricing have not been decided. This license does not include a future paid version, a discount, or a free upgrade. Check this official website for any currently available version.

Where can I read the license?

The BridgeDevs Preview License Agreement applies. The full English and Japanese text is bundled in Settings → Licenses and is also available on the download page.

Why does playback return to Original?

To preserve playback and audio sync, the source is shown when enhancement falls more than 150ms behind playback. Try Fast mode or 2× output to reduce load.

Why are subtitles missing?

Embedded text subtitles are supported through the built-in FFmpeg path. Image subtitles, external SRT/ASS files, and advanced ASS styling are not supported. Subtitle selection for MP4/MOV opened with AVFoundation is not exposed in the current UI.

Can I export an enhanced video?

The Preview is a player. It can save the displayed frame as a PNG, but does not export an entire enhanced video.

Can I use other models?

Compatible Core ML image-input/output models (.mlpackage, .mlmodel, .mlmodelc) and Compact Metal models can be loaded. Arbitrary ONNX and .pth files cannot be imported directly. A loaded model is applied immediately and up to 20 recent paths are saved, but the app starts with its built-in model next time.

What does history store?

Up to 50 video paths, playback positions, last-played dates, durations, and audio/subtitle selections are stored on your Mac. Delete history individually or all at once. Moved files are not tracked automatically.
